How to play

  1. Put the numbers 1 to 9 in the nine gaps, each one once.
  2. Every row and every column has to come out to the number after its =.
  3. Work each line left to right, or top to bottom: 2 × 3 + 4 is 10.
  4. A number written in ink is given, and stays put. The harder the level, the fewer you get.
  5. Once a line is full, its result turns green if it adds up and red if it doesn't. The tiles never tell you.
  6. Stuck? A hint writes one number in for you in marker. It stays for good, and adds 30 seconds to your time.

Questions

When does the puzzle of the day change?
At midnight UTC, the same moment for everyone in the world, so everyone gets the same board. Depending on where you live, that can be in the evening or in the morning.
Can I play the puzzle of the day again?
No, you get one try a day. Quitting doesn't count as a try: you can start it again until you solve it.
How does my streak work?
Solve the puzzle of the day on consecutive days to grow your streak. Miss a day and it starts again.
Will my best times and streak move to my new iPhone or iPad?
Yes, when you're signed in to iCloud on both. NineGaps keeps them in your own iCloud and combines what each device knows: the faster time on each level, and every puzzle of the day you solved.
I upgraded from the old NineGaps. Where are my best times?
Version 2 reads the best times the old app saved, so they should be in the hall of fame. If they aren't, please get in touch.
How do I clear my best times?
Open settings (the gear on the menu) and tap reset best times. It clears them on every device signed in to the same iCloud account. Your puzzle of the day streak stays.
